An explanation to those who will ask me what, when , and why.

This explanation is a novel, set mainly to answer common questions anyone may have about why any part of this is a certain way. So if you dont wanna know why I did anything, I guess then you dont have to waste yer time reading it. This is something I've been thinking about for a loooonnng time. Probably ever since the movie came out, but I never could figure out how to do it. But you know, I never did until I actually sat down with a pencil & tried it. Plus I know thought it would be interesting to see too. So here are the Beatles in Cars form as the Beetles! It's a simple design, taken partly from how Pixar designed their Cars, partly from one of my Beatles photos, and partly from the Beatles cartoon series. It's cartoon-y cuz I didnt feel like doing realism for 4 cars & its in colour cuz I felt that way you could better see what they looked like. I didnt do it on a computer cuz mine's shared by my whole fam so I couldnt be tied down to the computer the whole time I was werking on this. I realize the VWs arent totally correct to the real thing, but these ARE cartoons, after all. (even Pixar's Cars were caricatured a little.

One challenge was how do I illustrate their oh-so-famous hair? Why not have the tops be a different colour from the rest of the body? (which then extends down to their eyes) Then I could match that to their real hair colour. At first I thought about giving each one a body colour to match them from Sgt. Pepper, but that was too easy. I also thought about making them 60s model Beetles, but I felt that would make them seem old & I wanted them to be younger. Each one also has a symbol on his side that's associated with him to further identify them (this is why they're all in 3/4 view). Now for a breakdown on each:

Paul- Really perky. He's not always perky but Paul has a better chance of looking that way than the other 3, even when he's not trying to (i think it's the eyes ). He looked even perkier (if that's possible) before I decided to lower his eyelids. Paul's eyes presented an issue, mainly cuz of his arched, almost perfectly shaped eyebrows. So I had to find a way to illustrate that since cars dont really have eyebrows, although in the movie the top where the roof meets the windshield kinda acted like them.(The movements are subtle, but they're there) I really wanted him to be black cuz it's a cool, classy colour but his actual hair is black. I didnt want him to be all 1 colour so I made him blue. Now what would Paul's symbol be? It's not as obvious with him as it is with the others but I figured the logo for his band Wings was the best choice.

George- Not too much going on with him. He's green cuz I felt since he was all spiritual & stuff (plus he loved gardening) a natural colour like green would werk. Then there's those eyes. He has the kind that if you just saw his eyes, he'd appear stern until you saw his whole face & realized he was grinning. I did try to soften them a little. Of course, George has the OM symbol cuz anyone who knows George knows he was a Hindu. George also has racing stripes because he actually loved fast cars & car racing.

John- Duh, he's white. What other colour would he be? Ditto the peace sign, as he was such a peace advocate. I toyed with about 3 different expressions for him: cheeky loveableness, sullen indifference, but I went with contentedness. (really it was just a matter of changing his mouth shape, so they all looked decent on him) The main challenge with him was how do I show his glasses? Cars dont have glasses. So his windshield is divided to give the illusion of glasses. Another challenge was getting that half-lidded, almost tired or bored look in his eyes, so that took some doing. I basically used the same technique as with Paul's eyes.

Ringo- Yellow, or yellowish. For no other reason than Yellow Submarine. Duh, he's got a star, what else? He's also got the biggest hood emblem cuz, well, you should know why (hint: "it's the nose, you know") I also wanted to show Ringo's cute but somewhat sad eyes & I think that werked.

So there you are. I think I like the Paul car & Ringo car best. That's cool if you like it, it's alright if you dont, just no hurling insults, ok? I realize this is a bit of a departure from what I normally post here (although I am no stranger to doing cartoons. ).
